Trenace Dorsey-Hollins, executive director of parental advocacy nonprofit Parent Shield, said she understands some parents’ concerns about religion, but Bluebonnet offers transparency for families.

“I was just stressed about the urgency to parents to let them know. Please take a minute, go on the portal,” said Fort Worth ISD parent Trenace Dorsey-Hollins.

Literacy Roundup was set up at six community centers and libraries during the summer. If the program returns in 2026, Parent Shield executive director Trenace Dorsey-Hollins told the City Council to expand it across all of Fort Worth.

“If there are standards set by the state, we want our kids exceeding those,”

“It’s like we’re adding gasoline mid-fire,” said Trenace Dorsey-Hollins, executive director of parental advocacy group Parent Shield.

Parent Shield Fort Worth released a report last year, called Nurturing Minds, sharing data from its Literacy is Freedom Texas program, also known as LIFT. The program provided high-dosage, or high-impact, literacy intervention to Fort Worth students and tracked their results.

“They symbolize lifting literacy for not only our kids who are here today, but for every kid in the city of Fort Worth,” Parent Shield executive director Trenace Dorsey-Hollins said.

Trenace Dorsey-Hollins, a Fort Worth ISD parent and education advocate with Parent Shield, said the term "state takeover" can cause fear among families.

"I think they would be upset because of the unknown," she said.

"Things have gone up tremendously in the past couple of years," said Trenace Dorsey-Hollins, a Fort Worth Independent School District mom of two.

“We are pleased to see the release of the true and accurate ratings at last.”

“I don’t really have concerns specifically with him because I feel like him as the leader speaks volumes,” Dorsey-Hollins said. “He’s been embedded in the community, meeting directly with parents. I think that’s what we need to shift to the next level.”

Trenace Dorsey-Hollins, director of Parent Shield Fort Worth, held up a sign that read, “I’m here for literacy” while she told Molinar and the school board, “literacy is freedom and that’s justice for all of our kids.”

"It's not the bad schools per se, it's good schools that are up for closure," said Watson. "Why would an A-rated school be on the list to be closed in a county where we're struggling?"

“Schools are closing because kids cannot read,” she said. “If our students in the district were able to read on grade level, parents would not be running away from the district. Instead, they’d be running to it.”

“When we learned that interim Superintendent Molinar would be taking what we’ve learned and implementing it districtwide, we were beaming with pride,” Dorsey-Hollins said.
