Understanding Your Child’s STAAR Scores

STAAR Score Report

Your child’s STAAR score report provides helpful information about their academic strengths and areas where they may need additional support.

We encourage you to ask families to download and provide a PDF copy of their student's report

This can help both you and the family better understand the student's strengths, areas for growth, and potential tutoring needs.

How To Access

Parents can access their student’s STAAR score report by:

  1. Visiting TexasAssessment.gov and logging in to view their child’s results.

  2. Using their school district’s single sign-on portal, if available.

  3. Downloading the STAAR score report as a PDF to share with their tutoring provider.

FAQs

What is the PASS program?
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Who is eligible for PASS?
To qualify, a student must be currently enrolled in a Texas public school and have scored “Did Not Meet Grade Level” in reading on the third-grade state assessment.

How do I know if my child is eligible?
Parents can review their child’s third-grade reading state assessment results or contact their child’s school for help understanding the results. Families who believe their child is eligible should create a PASS portal account and submit an application.

Does my child have to attend a public school?
Yes. PASS is available to students who are currently enrolled in a Texas public school and meet the reading assessment requirement.

How much support does PASS provide?
Eligible families receive a $400 online account that can be used to purchase approved reading and literacy tutoring services.

What can the $400 be used for?
The funds are intended for approved tutoring services that help students strengthen reading and literacy skills. Families must select from tutors and service providers approved through the PASS program.

Can I choose any tutor?
No. PASS funds may only be used with tutors and service providers approved through the PASS portal. Families can use the portal’s tutor search tool to review available options.

Is Parent Shield an approved PASS tutoring provider?
Yes. Parent Shield is an approved PASS tutoring provider. Eligible families can use their PASS funds to access Parent Shield’s reading and literacy tutoring services. After approval, families can select Parent Shield from the approved provider options in the PASS portal.

For other questions or concerns, or to make sure you are on our list to participate, please contact Parent Shield directly with the information below!

How do I apply?
First, create a PASS portal account. Then, complete and submit an application for your child through the portal. Once the application is approved, you can select an approved tutor and begin using the available support.

Can I apply for more than one child?
Yes. Parents may apply for each child who meets the eligibility requirements. Each eligible child must have their own application.

How long does approval take?
Application review times may vary. Families should check their PASS portal account for updates and make sure all requested information has been submitted.

Does PASS replace the reading support my child receives at school?
No. PASS provides supplemental tutoring support. It can be an additional resource for families while their child continues receiving services and instruction through their school.

What if my child receives special education services or reading intervention?
A child may still be eligible if they meet the program requirements. PASS tutoring is supplemental and does not replace the services, accommodations, or interventions a student receives through their school or IEP.

Where can I get help with my application or account?
Families can contact the PASS support team at 1-800-656-4199 or passhelp@region10.org.
